This week, Genting Malaysia announced that Resorts World Genting reopened on February 16, a few days earlier than expected. The company will open its Resorts World Langkawi and Resorts World Kijal non-gaming properties on February 19. The venues had been closed due to the local Movement Control Order. The COVID-19 restrictions of the order have now been relaxed, which allowed for the early reopening.

Resorts World Genting was shut down on January 22 due to restrictions put in place by the Order. The integrated resort was supposed to stay closed through February 18. However, the property reopened at 6 pm on February 16.
Upon reopening, the operator noted that some facilities, hotels, attractions, and other options will have revised hours of operation. Some may have limited availability for guests or temporarily closed.
According to Resorts World Genting, the operator will continue to follow the SOPs issued by the government within the resort. They expect all guests to do the same. Guest and employee safety, as well as health, remain a top priority of the company.
Resorts World Birmingham and the remaining land-based casinos operated by the company in the United Kingdom will remain closed at this time.
Working on Recovery
Resorts World Genting closed initially on March 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The facility remained closed until June 19. The closure was part of the first Movement Control Order issued by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
By the time the venue reopened, it started to see visitation levels rise. Last July, the property recorded just over 50% of its pre-pandemic visit numbers. However, by the time January 2021 rolled around, Malaysia was experiencing a new wave of positive virus cases. The Movement Control Order was put back in place and the Resorts World Genting was among businesses that were shut down.
